Poetry Island

Who will survive?

Edgar Allen Poe, Nikki Giovanni, Jack Prelutsky, Carl Sandburg - who will be the longest surviving poet on Poetry Island? Vote daily to keep all but one! The winner will be announced Friday.

Poetry Island

The object: to convince your classmates that your poet is worthy of staying on the island.

The symbol: each group chooses its favorite poet and makes a pennant with your poet's name and at least six symbols of his or her life. This will be lowered if your group is not invited back to stay on the island another day.

The format: after choosing a poet, the group chooses four poems from his or her writings. As a group you will try to "sell" your classmates on the merits of your poet in the following formats:

Day One: Mood Music

Day Two: Frozen Tableau

Day Three: Artistic Interpretation

Day Four: Drama!

Day Five: Poetry Party and Reflective Essay

Each day every student votes with a paragraph "ballot," and the poets with the most votes get to stay on the island (one will be eliminated each day). Friday we will crown the winning group at a party and write a reflective essay about our experiences with poetry.

There will also be a vote for best Mood Music presentation, best Frozen Tableau, best group Artistic Interpretation, and best Drama presentation. Don't lose hope if you are eliminated! Good things will happen!
