Poetry Island

The Rules

1. Your group must all agree on one poet, and all four poems must be authored by that poet. Disagreements are settled with dice.

2. Each day your group will hand out the poem you will be presenting to the students in the class.

3. After the performances, every student will vote to keep one of the remaining poets on the island. (In other words students vote to keep the poets, not throw them off.)

4. Each student will vote via a ballot which consists of a well-structured paragraph which explains why s/he thinks the poem performed should entitle the poet to stay on the island. You must use the language of poetry (effective metaphor, great imagery, lots of onomatopoeia, interesting rhyme scheme, etc. with supports from the poem). Votes with remarks like "this guy rocks" or "It was really cool" will be discarded. The highest vote totals will determine who stays. Ties will be decided by dice.

5. Each group, whether "on" or "off" the island performs EVERY day. Each group must perform four poems, even if its poet has not been invited to stay on the island.

6. Posters, handouts, and other campaign materials are encouraged, but only well-supported paragraphs on the ballots will count.

7. Don't forget - there will be awards for the best performance on each day. Don't lose hope if you are not asked to return to the island.
